A Change

I moved my blog over to Blogger! Unfortunately, WordPress didn’t quite work for me, so I decided to make the change (after a very stressful weekend of figuring out HOW to make the change — exporting and importing old content ain’t easy!)

So here’s the link: http://sparkleandstripes.blogspot.com/
Please update your readers or bookmarks if you’ve got them! Otherwise, you won’t be able to see any new content. See ya over there!

The Colors

Picture 3 I wasn’t planning on taking outfit photos dressed like this, but I couldn’t pass up this awesome wall! Alex and I went to Brooklyn for breakfast tacos, but sadly, left with none due to the super bowl of all things! The restaurant that serves them were not making them that morning. Boo! Instead, we got brunch at a little place down the road that put rosemary in my oatmeal and oh my, it was good!

This weekend has been an interesting one. I twisted my ankle after a not so graceful fall down a steep set of stairs on Saturday. Then, Monday morning, I woke up with a very runny nose! I thought I was going to avoid getting sick this winter, but itdoesn’t look like that is going to happen. But no worries, I’m drinking lots of tea and made homemade soup!Picture 2Jacket: Polar Edge

For the Record

Picture 5It’s been FREEZING outside lately, so honestly, the last thing I’ve wanted to do is outfit posts. Luckily, the light in my room isn’t so bad, and I’ve got our new record to show off.

Mini Dresses is a band that I played in this summer. It was such a fun experience (I had never been in a band before!) We recorded a few songs and were approached by a company asking if we wanted it to be turned into vinyl. Well, you can’t say no to that! If you want to have a listen, you can hear what we’ve done here on bandcamp!

Would any of you be interested if I did a giveaway of one of the records? I’ve got an extra one that just dying to be in the hands someone who would enjoy it!

This weekend was all about staying warm. Alex and I made a quick trip to Chelsea Market to browse around, but other than that we stayed in. I made homemade Mexican chicken soup and we watched the Super Bowl. Is anyone else glad football is over?

Back to School Blues

Picture 1I’m not actually “blue” that I’m back in school, but I will tell you this – nothing makes me more nervous than the first class day. Going through a syllabus and realizing all the assignments you will have to do in such a short amount of time (and on top of that an internship and even more assignments from another class) really works me up.

But I’ve made it through quite a few semesters of school, so I can make it through this one right? RIGHT? In all seriousness though, I am looking forward to this semester. It’s going to be a tough one, but I’ve got some great ideas for articles!

I busted out the mint green jeans again after seeing a girl wearing some the other day. I thought to myself “there’s no rule that says I can’t wear colored denim in winter!” So here I am rocking bright jeans in the sea of black clothing that New York City becomes when it’s cold outside. And my friend Cristina had the same idea! I got to class only to see her rocking mint green jeans as well. Loved that!

Well I don’t know about you guys but I am so ready for this weekend. This was my first full week, and I’ve got to say I’m exhausted! My plans involve testing out some breakfast tacos in Brooklyn (you read that right Austin readers!) and watching the commericals during the Super Bowl with Alex.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Picture 2 Oh, the things I go through to get an outfit post for the blog. It was FREEZING when we snapped these shots, but gosh darnit, I didn’t want that black coat of mine making yet another appearance on here. I love it to death, but it’s getting way to much blog time.

Anyways, I can’t believe I haven’t done a post with this dress yet. I’ve had it for quite sometime, but I guess I usually wear it at night for concerts and such. A few weeks ago, Alex and I saw Dirty Projectors over at Carnegie Hall (swoon.) and this is the outfit I wore. I thought I’d recreate it for you guys since we didn’t get a chance to snap any shots of it!Picture 3 Picture 4
I’m hoping the blog will be back up to its regular 5 posts a week schedule. Now that I’m back in school, I can cajole my friends into snapping shots for me after class (you guys are the best!)

Can you believe January is almost over? This month FLEW by. And February is a short month, so it will be March before we know it. EEK!

The Usual

Picture 1Ok, ok. I’ll be the first to admit that my outfits lately have been a little unoriginal. I swear I’m getting back in the groove though! I’m not used to this vicious cold weather and I have no idea how to dress appropriately for it. Needless to say, I’m getting the hang out it, and blue jeans will appear less and less — I PROMISE!

The snow this weekend was beautiful. I loved that there was even some left on the ground on Sunday! It even seemed to sparkle which made it that much more magical for me. Being a Texas girl, snow is a big deal!
Picture 5 Picture 4 Alex and I went to a stand-up comedy show that a friend of his from work was in. I commend anyone willing to get up on stage and perform like that. Something you may not know about me is that I get major stage fright. Whenever I have had to do presentations in class — even if it’s just a small group of people I know really well — I tense up. I forget what I’m supposed to say and my hands start to shake. I’m working on it though! Picture 2 Picture 6School starts back for me tomorrow! I loved this long winter break, but I guess it’s time to get back to the daily grind. I’m taking a class about food writing and another reporting class. I’m hoping I can juggle those and my internship! Picture 3

Dreams of Spring

IMG_1703I had Monday off of work, so I just got to spend the day being lazy and hanging out. Alex stayed an extra day because he had the day off as well, so it was really nice having him around! I asked him to pick out an outfit for me today, and I’ve got to say I think he did a really good job. I never would have paired this blouse with this cardigan!

IMG_1720IMG_1706

I had planned on going to the gym on Monday, but it was closed. So, instead I just watched some Homeland (I’m obsessed!) and cooked dinner. Alex helped me budget my money this weekend, and I’m actually really excited about being more organized with how I spend it. I like having things planned out, so I know this is going to be really helpful for me.

I’ve been feeling a little uninspired when it comes to getting dressed lately. I think it has to do with this weather. I’m so over the cold! I’m ready for spring already! I want to wear my florals sans tights. I want to wear sandals and flats. Of course, I should really embrace this cold weather. Once the temperatures start really rising I know I’ll be wishing winter was back.
